Wood Carving in the round, with Wanda Gillespie
15th February – 22nd March 2021
The Warren, 2a Cross St, Auckland
In this six-week beginners’ course you will learn the basics of three-dimensional wood carving, as you carve your choice of native bird: tūī, pīwakawaka, or rūrū.
Students will be introduced to all the fundamentals of carving that will enable them to get started, including sharpening, care and maintenance of carving chisels, tool choices, transferring designs onto timber, the correct sequence of steps required to produce any 3D carving design, tool control and how to apply a basic oil and wax finish. All materials and tools will be provided.
This class is suitable for beginners or more experienced carvers, and is a great next step for those who have taken Wanda’s relief carving class.
