Kowtow + Knight Associates team up for a planet-respectful space in Smith & Caughey’s.

Kowtow are New Zealand’s fashion eco pioneers (right down to getting their office coffee delivered via bicycle). Ethical and sustainability are fundamentals to their business and it’s greatly evident in every single thing that they do.

With bricks and mortar stores in Wellington’s Te Aro and Auckland’s Newmarket, Kowtow branch out a little further and into Queen Street’s first-on-the-block department store, Smith & Caughey’s.

“We have been in partnership with Smith & Caughey’s since 2013, so when we were presented with the opportunity to recreate our atmosphere within their iconic Queen Street department store, we were thrilled.” — Gosia Piatek, Kowtow founder & creative director.

Designed in collaboration with Rufus Knight of Knight Associates, only locally sourced materials have been featured including Southland beech timber, aged brass, paper lanterns and hand-braided rugs.
